At Families Rising, a core piece of our mission is to educate and support child welfare professionals. To that end, we’ve been hard at work on a new project: a podcast for professionals. Launching TODAY, the CoachUp podcast is designed to help leaders, mentors, and visionaries elevate their impact.

Each episode, we dive into the mindset, strategies, and real-world lessons from top executives and change-makers in and around child welfare. Whether you’re leading a team or striving for personal growth, this podcast is here to help you lead with purpose, inspire with action, and level up your leadership.

Over the course of this season, you’ll hear from expert guests like:

  • Ligia Cushman, CEO, Families Rising
  • Rebecca Jones Gaston, Commissioner, Administration on Children, Youth and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
  • Kendra Lowden, Director of Leadership and Tribal Initiatives, Families Rising
  • Michelle D. Seymour, Director of Equity and Partnerships, National Adoption Association

Why coaching?

Coaching, mentoring, and supervising are often used interchangeably, yet each serves a distinct purpose in employee development. Coaches ask questions that facilitate self-awareness and problem-solving, while mentors and supervisors typically provide answers based on experience or authority. In this way, coaching encourages staff to develop through critical thinking and self-reflection, and it stands apart as a transformative tool for professional growth.

Despite its effectiveness, coaching is often misunderstood. So we plan to share real stories of leaders who benefited from this approach.
