Families Rising is deeply saddened and troubled by the ICE‑involved shooting that took the life of a woman in Minneapolis today. Our hearts are with her loved ones, the children and families directly affected, and the broader community that is experiencing renewed fear, anger, and grief.
As an organization rooted in Minnesota and dedicated to the well‑being of children, youth, and families, we know that violence and public trauma have lasting impacts on family stability, mental health, and a sense of safety. This is especially true for immigrant, refugee, and Black and Brown communities who already navigate heightened surveillance, discrimination, and systemic inequities.
Today, Families Rising stands in solidarity with families and community partners who are calling for transparency, accountability, and care‑centered responses to this tragedy. We echo state and local leaders’ calls for calm while also affirming the right of community members to gather, grieve, and advocate for safety and justice.
In the days ahead, we will continue to listen to families and collaborate with partners to ensure that children and caregivers are not left to navigate this trauma alone.
If you are an adoptive, foster, or kinship caregiver in Minnesota and need support, such as talking with children and teens about frightening events, please connect with Families Rising MN and our statewide support network.
